BRIDGE opened this month its doors and offers everything around the food culture. The new urban hotspot with an area of 2000 m2 offers shopping, catering and discovery around food stuff, whereby its purpose is uniting people and food. Frigo-Consulting was appointed by Migros Zurich with the refrigeration engineering, thus becoming part of the realization of this exciting project.
Due to efficiency and sustainability, it has been decided to use the natural refrigerant carbon dioxide (CO2). A CO2 booster system with ejectors and parallel compressors provides refrigeration for the different cooling and freezing units. The waste heat is primarily used for domestic hot water and heating purposes, whereas the residual waste heat is rejected to the cooling-loop-system of the SBB (Swiss federal railway). The CO2 booster system supplies in total 66 MT-cooling units and 13 LT-freezer units and during the summer months, the system is also providing cooling energy for the air-conditioning. The total cooling capacity of all cooling-/freezing- and AC units is 172 kW.
Frigo-Consulting, responsible for the refrigeration engineering, acted as an interface between client, architects, HVAC engineers and refrigeration installer. The scope of engineering services included the technical design of the system, tender, supervision during realization as well as commissioning and operational optimisation after start-up.
