This year, the conference of the German Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Association (Deutscher Kälte- und Klimatechnischer Verein DKV) took place virtually. Frigo-Consulting participated actively and held a presentation on the topic “cooling, air-conditioning and heating with CO2 without intermediate circuit”. Despite the exceptional circumstances and the challenges by the digital realisation of the conference for the first time, it was a complete success.
Manuel Decasper of Frigo-Consulting introduced the concept of “eCO2cube” to the audience. Here a short insight to his speech: This concept for small retail shops ensures beside the refrigeration the air-conditioning and heating of the facility at the same time. The “eCO2cube”-system works without any secondary medium like water. The only refrigerant used for the refrigerant and heat medium is CO2. By the integrated heat pump function, the heat capacity can be provided independently from the available waste heat of the refrigeration system.
The integration of all refrigeration and heat requirements of a supermarket in one system allows the optimal use of synergies by managing all requirements simultaneously. The lack of a secondary medium leads to a win of efficiency by reducing heat transfer losses. Pump energy is not needed, and storage losses are eliminated by the load cover in real time. The elimination of a conventional heating allows a space saving implementation on site. Next to the fact that this system allows a fossil-free heating, a climate friendly operation is guaranteed by the refrigerant CO2. In addition to the basic functionality of the system, experiences from operation could be shared from operating data of over 30 realised systems.
