Ammonia (NH3 or R717) has no impact on climate warming and is one of the mostly produced chemicals and raw material for any further nitrogen compounds. Firstly appeared as a refrigerant in the 19th century, it showed already striking advantages. In the 20th century synthetic refrigerants replaced NH3 in the field of small to middle power range. However, in the industrial sector NH3 was and stays unbeatable.
An important reason for its unchallenged appearence in industrial refrigeration, are ammonia’s excellent thermodynamic qualities, leading to economic viability. NH3 is used for compression refrigeration machines (piston- and screw compressor) as well as absorption machines.
Frigo-Consulting recommends to use ammonia for refrigeration installations and heat pumps within the field of high power demand.
